a few brave went to dig this morning, Oh what fun but it only took us about 1 hour and a half. Yes we used shovels, but were very careful. We dug in two different areas. It was way past the hatching time and since all Panama City Leather backs did not hatch we did not have much hope, but we want to find the eggs, it was such a thrill. Tom thought they were in the top area because we could see the area in the dunes where she had taken the sand away. He was correct. And he found the eggs…Hurrah…96 non developed eggs and 16 spacer eggs, that the leatherbacks also lay. Many many thanks to Shar, Tom, Sharon, Bruce, Matt, Erica, Tobius, and Val. It was a great rush to find these leatherback eggs. You can see the area by Sharon’s foot that goes back into the sand where the eggs where. See everyone on the beach nest summer.
In the next photos you will see, Tom, Tobius, and Bruce digging, Tom finds the eggs, the top of egg chamber, and filling the areas back in.
